Aust stocks set for soft open


The Australian sharemarket looks set to open lower after falls on US and European bourses amid escalating tensions between the West and Russia, and talk of possible military action by the US. At 6. 45am (AEST), the September share price index futures contract was down 23 points at 5,426.

In economic news on Friday, the Reserve Bank of Australia releases its Statement on Monetary Policy and the Australian Bureau of Statistics releases June housing finance figures.
